What do I do if I think my child needs a psychiatry assessment?
Referrals to Colin Watt can be made via your GP or other specialist services, such as a clinical psychologist, paediatrician or other medical specialist.
Once a referral has been received by our office you will be contacted and advised of the initial assessment and booking process.
Booking Process, things to know!
To shorten assessment wait times we now use a 'triage assessment' information system that includes a number of digital assessment forms for both parents and teachers to complete. This stage requires an initial payment to be made (payment information will be provided on email).
Once all triage forms have been returned, they will be reviewed by Dr. Colin Watt and, if appropriate, an online zoom appointment will be arranged. You will be sent a link and information on how to make an appointment booking and pay the online assessment meeting payment. Please note a booking will not be confirmed until payment is made. If the triage information suggests that your child or adolescent would be better seen by a different agency or service you will be advised of this and given the necessary information.
Colin Watt is only available to run his specialist consultation clinic on a Wednesday and Friday. You will be able to book your own appointment time from the booking and payment link sent to you via email, once the triage assessment information has been submitted.

Information for parents about diagnosing ADHD:
Looking into a diagnosis of ADHD may seem easy from all the information out there on You-tube, Tik-Tok and the internet in general. These sorts of sites can give good reason to pursue a diagnosis. Most of the questionnaires are screening tools to point towards further assessment. All this information is very useful.
There are many conditions and situations where the signs and symptoms appear to be that of ADHD but may in fact be due to something else. There are other conditions that may co-exist with ADHD and should be considered. Some of these will need to be treated before confirmation and treatment of ADHD. Conditions such as learning difficulties (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia), anxiety, giftedness and autism spectrum disorder need to be considered as well as a trauma history. Not all of these can be diagnosed after one appointment and may require further assessment.
As such, your referral will be triaged before consultation unless your referral is from a clinical, child and Family or
educational psychologist. Triage will require you to complete online forms that will detail presenting concerns, developmental history, social history, school history and medical history. School reports and teacher information. Psychometric ratings will need to completed online
A letter will be sent to you once referral letter is received which will detail triage requirements.
